How Does Metal Oxide Form in Boilers?

The reaction between iron and oxygen forms metal oxide (commonly known as rust). In a boiler system, when oxygen from the air (oxidation) comes into contact with metal components such as pipes, radiators, or internal elements, it results in rusting.

As water flows through these components, iron oxide particles detach and mix with limescale in the water, forming sludge.
