What is the Rivermag Magnetic
Limescale Inhibitor?

RIVERMAG BLUE POWER OPERATING PRINCIPLE
Blue Power 3/4” : Suitable for dishwashers and washing machines.”

The Grey series 1/2": Suitable for shower taps and water heaters used to meet the general hot water needs of the home/flat.

RiverMag Blue Power magnetic limescale inhibitors are made of magnets, and they function by altering certain physical properties of water passing through the magnetic field generated by the magnets.

The scale particles in the water are in a crystalline (needlelike) structure, and they adhere to the surfaces they pass over, causing scale buildup. RiverMag Blue Power magnetic limescale inhibitors alter the crystal structure, converting the calcite crystals into aragonite, thus preventing them from adhering to each other, the water system, or the equipment surfaces. This allows the removal of scale with the discharge of dirty water.

RiverMag Blue Power magnetic limescale inhibitors do not alter the hardness of the water.

In magnetic scale inhibitors in general, the magnetic flux transferred to the water by the magnets makes a crucial impact. The materials from which the magnets are made, the intensity of the magnetic flux, and their operating temperatures can vary. As a result, even if magnets have the same magnetic flux intensity and operating temperature, different magnets may have different effects on magnetic scale inhibitors. The volume and position of the magnets inside the product affect the strength of the magnetic field generated. The real secret behind the functioning of magnetic limescale inhibitors lies precisely in this point.

RiverMag Blue Power magnetic limescale inhibitors are designed with consideration of the extreme conditions mentioned above and are produced with the best quality materials and excellent craftsmanship.

By using RiverMag Blue Power magnetic limescale inhibitors, you not only protect your equipment and extend its lifespan, but you also save energy. Remember, the limescale that forms on the resistance acts as insulation and makes it harder for the water to heat up.

What is the Rivermag Magnetic Combi - Boiler Filter?

Innovative Protection for Heating & Cooling Systems suitable for 3/4”

In combi boilers and similar heating systems, residues such as sludge, limescale, and especially iron oxide circulate in the system water. These particles—mostly metal shavings—tend to accumulate and clog tight passageways. Magnetic filters are devices designed to remove such particles from the system.

The Rivermag magnetic boiler filter consists of a mechanical particle trap and a magnetic limescale inhibitor housed within the same body.

Thanks to its advanced design, the Rivermag magnetic boiler filter can be installed in just 2–3 minutes by simply removing the dirt trap cap on the boiler without cutting any pipes or modifying the installation.

How Does Metal Oxide Form in Boilers?

The reaction between iron and oxygen forms metal oxide (commonly known as rust). In a boiler system, when oxygen from the air (oxidation) comes into contact with metal components such as pipes, radiators, or internal elements, it results in rusting.

As water flows through these components, iron oxide particles detach and mix with limescale in the water, forming sludge.

As sludge builds up, it tends to accumulate in narrow bends, radiators, and behind valves—especially in areas where the water flow is slower. These blockages increase the pressure drop and cause resistance in flow, making pumps work harder and consume more energy.

The buildup of sludge on radiator bases reduces the water passage area, lowering heating efficiency. It can also corrode surfaces it contacts over time.

FAQs

  • A magnetic limescale preventer works by altering the structure of calcium and magnesium ions in hard water using a strong magnetic field. This change reduces the ability of these minerals to stick to surfaces inside pipes, boilers, and appliances, helping to prevent limescale buildup. As a result, systems run more efficiently, require less maintenance, and last longer — without the need for chemicals or electricity.

  • The device is typically installed on the water inlet, before the water enters your home’s internal plumbing. For the Blue and Grey Series, installation is extremely simple and can be done by the user without professional help — just attach it to the pipe using the provided connectors. For other models, installation is also relatively easy, but we recommend professional assistance to ensure optimal performance and proper sealing.

  • No, magnetic limescale preventers operate without electricity or moving parts, and they require no regular maintenance. Once installed, they work continuously to treat the water passing through. It’s a long-lasting, eco-friendly solution.

  • The device helps protect a wide range of systems, including combi boilers, central heating units, water heaters, and appliances connected to your water supply — especially dishwashers and washing machines. It can also be installed on shower heads to prevent limescale buildup. By preventing limescale and corrosion, it reduces repair costs and improves system efficiency. It’s ideal for both residential and light commercial use.
